Klasira vs Teachable: Fees, Payouts and Features (2026)

Teachable is one of the best-known course platforms, with student apps and built-in tax handling. Klasira is new, charges no transaction fees and pays you through your own Stripe. An honest comparison.

11 min read

Teachable is one of the longest-running platforms for selling online courses, coaching and downloads; its pricing page says more than 150,000 creators use it. It has student apps for iOS and Android, built-in email on most plans, and its own payment system that collects and pays sales tax and VAT for you.

Klasira is a new course platform. It gives each creator a designed school site, courses, downloads, memberships and a checkout that pays straight into the creator's own Stripe account, with 0% transaction fees. This comparison covers prices, fees, payouts and features, and where each one is the better pick.

The short answer

Choose Teachable if you want student mobile apps, a long track record, and tax collected and paid for you by its payment system. Choose Klasira if you want 0% transaction fees from the start, certificates, affiliates and a community without moving up a plan, and every sale paid into your own Stripe account. Teachable's Starter plan charges 7.5% on each sale.

Key takeaways

  • Teachable costs $39, $89 or $189 a month ($29, $69 or $139 billed yearly), plus a 7.5% transaction fee on Starter only.
  • On Teachable, certificates need the Growth plan, and the affiliate program and built-in email start on Builder.
  • Teachable Payments pays out daily, about two business days after a sale, with no reserve; you can also connect your own Stripe account, but then Teachable doesn't handle tax.
  • Teachable has iOS and Android student apps on every plan and calculates, collects and remits tax on its own payments. Klasira has neither.
  • Klasira charges 0% transaction fees and pays every sale straight into your own Stripe account, so the only cut of a sale is Stripe's (or PayPal's) processing fee.

Disclosure: we make Klasira, so weigh our view accordingly. Everything we say about Teachable comes from its own public pages, checked in October 2026 and linked at the end. Klasira is new and does less than Teachable in several areas; we list them.

Teachable pricing and fees

Teachable publishes four plans. Its pricing page shows a 7-day free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee, though a pop-up on the same page in October 2026 advertised an extended 30-day trial. Card processing on Teachable Payments is 2.9% + 30¢ for US cards.

Klasira: 0% transaction fees on every plan, with each sale paid into your own Stripe account. Plan prices are on Klasira's pricing page; we leave them out here so this post doesn't go stale when they change.

What the fees cost on real sales

Example (illustration, not data): $60,000 of course sales in a year, as 300 sales of $200 to US cardholders, on yearly billing where offered. Card processing of about 2.9% + 30¢ a sale (about $1,830 here) comes on top on every platform unless a row says it's included, so it's left out of the totals.

On Starter, the 7.5% fee costs more than the plan itself at almost any real sales volume, so most serious Teachable sellers end up on Builder or Growth. Teachable also offers optional fee bundles on its own payments: a Standard bundle with +0.5% where tax is assessed and +0.7% on recurring payments, or a Global bundle at +2.8% that adds local payment methods. On Klasira the matching costs come from Stripe itself: Stripe Billing charges 0.7% on subscriptions and payment plans, and Stripe Tax 0.5% where you use it.

What comes with Klasira

Many creators pay for a course platform, then add a payments tool, an email tool, a community app and an affiliate tool. Klasira puts the school, checkout, teaching tools, community, affiliates and email in one place, and keeps none of your revenue. If you're weighing Teachable, check which of these you'd pay extra for there, or which plan unlocks them.

Where Teachable is the better choice

Tax handled for you

On Teachable Payments, Teachable calculates, collects and remits US sales tax, EU and UK VAT and tax in other markets. Klasira can calculate and collect tax through Stripe Tax on your own Stripe account, but you register and file yourself. If tax admin worries you, this is Teachable's biggest advantage.

Student apps

Teachable's iOS and Android apps come with every plan. Klasira students learn in the browser, which works on phones but isn't an app.

Track record and ecosystem

Teachable has run for years with a large creator base, integrations, Zapier and an API on Growth. Klasira is new, with few integrations and no Zapier app yet.

Long payment plans and local pricing

Teachable allows payment plans of up to 36 months, and its Global bundle adds local payment methods and adaptive pricing in students' currencies.

Where Klasira is the better choice

No transaction fee on any plan

Klasira takes 0% of your sales. Teachable's Starter plan takes 7.5% of each one, which on $60,000 of sales is $4,500 a year on top of processing.

Features Teachable puts on higher plans

On Teachable, certificates need Growth ($139 a month billed yearly), and affiliates and built-in email need Builder. Klasira includes certificates, an affiliate program, assignments, a community and email automations.

Your Stripe account, with everything working

Klasira sells through your own Stripe account, so you see every payment in Stripe and are paid on Stripe's schedule. On Teachable you can connect your own Stripe too, but then tax handling stops and affiliate payouts become manual.

A designed school site

Klasira starts you from one of 15 designed school themes, edited as real pages in a drag-and-drop editor, and each school sells in its own currency, one of 19.

Who should choose which

Choose Teachable if

  • You want sales tax and VAT collected and paid for you.
  • Your students expect a mobile app.
  • You rely on Zapier, webhooks or an API.
  • You'd rather pick a platform with a long record and a large creator community.

Choose Klasira if

  • You don't want to pay a percentage of every sale, at any plan level.
  • You want certificates, affiliates, a community and email automations without moving to a higher plan.
  • You want every payment in your own Stripe account, on Stripe's payout schedule.
  • You're comfortable handling tax registration yourself, with Stripe Tax doing the calculation.

Moving from Teachable to Klasira

There's no automatic importer. Export your students from Teachable as a CSV and import them into Klasira, then rebuild your courses in Klasira's course builder, uploading your videos and files. Plan the move for a quiet period, and email students their new sign-in link.
