What do course platforms really take from each sale?

Yearly cost = plan per month × 12 + sales × (price × platform fee % + fixed fee) + sales × (price × processing % + fixed fee). Processing is the standard US card rate; Skool's fees and Gumroad's marketplace fee include it. Plan prices and fees were checked on 30 October 2026 on each vendor's pricing page (sources below); edit any plan price to match today's. Leaves out tax, international cards, currency conversion, subscription billing fees and add-ons.
A course platform costs its plan price plus any transaction fee it takes from each sale, plus card processing (about 2.9% + 30¢ per US card sale). On 300 sales of $200 a year, a 7.5% platform fee costs $4,500 and processing about $1,830. Yearly total = plan × 12 + sales × (price × fee % + fixed fee).

Course Platform Fee Calculator FAQ
Which course platforms charge transaction fees?
On the plans checked in October 2026: Teachable 7.5% on Starter, Podia 5% on Mover, LearnWorlds $5 a sale on Starter, Skool 10% + 30¢ on Hobby, and Gumroad 10% + 50¢ on direct sales. Thinkific and Kajabi charge 0% on their own payments but 0.5% to 2% on your own Stripe. Klasira charges 0% on every plan.
Do I still pay card processing with a 0% transaction fee?
Yes. A 0% fee means the platform takes nothing; the payment processor still charges for each card payment, about 2.9% + 30¢ for a US card on Stripe. Skool and Gumroad's marketplace include processing in their own fee.
Why is there no Klasira plan price?
So you compare with the current price list: type the monthly price of the Klasira plan you're looking at from the pricing page. Klasira takes 0% of each sale, and payments go into your own Stripe account, so Stripe's processing is the only per-sale cost.
Is monthly or yearly billing cheaper?
Yearly billing costs less per month on most platforms here, between about 14% and 26% less, but you pay for the year up front. Switch the billing toggle to see both.
What does the calculator leave out?
Sales tax and VAT, international card and currency conversion surcharges, extra fees on subscriptions and payment plans (Stripe Billing charges 0.7%), add-ons such as branded apps, and refunds. Add them yourself if they apply to you.
How current are these prices?
They were checked on each vendor's pricing and fee pages on 30 October 2026. Vendors change prices, so check the linked pages before you decide, and edit any plan price in the calculator.
