7 Best Gumroad Alternatives in 2026 (Lower Fees per Sale)

Gumroad takes 10% + 50 cents a sale plus processing. Seven alternatives compared on fees, payouts and tax handling, with the math on a $20 product.

12 min read

Gumroad is the easiest way to sell a first product: no monthly fee, a checkout in minutes, and since 2025 it handles sales tax and VAT as the merchant of record. The price is paid per sale: 10% + 50¢ on direct sales plus card processing, and a flat 30% on sales through its Discover marketplace.

Once you sell regularly, that share usually costs more than a monthly plan. Here are seven alternatives, what each takes from the same sales, how each pays you, and who handles your tax.

The short answer

The best Gumroad alternative depends on your products. For tax handled at a lower fee, Lemon Squeezy (5% + 50 cents) or Payhip (5% on its free plan, EU and UK VAT remitted). For 0% fees with courses, coaching and downloads, Klasira or Podia Shaker. For a link-in-bio store, Stan Store or Beacons. For merch next to downloads, Sellfy.

Key takeaways

  • Gumroad charges 10% + 50¢ per direct sale plus card processing (2.9% + 30¢), 30% on Discover sales, and 5% + 50¢ on direct sales once you pass $20,000 in a calendar month.
  • Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy and Payhip handle VAT for you; with the others, tax registration and filing are your job.
  • On 100 sales of a $20 product, Gumroad keeps about $338 including card processing; every monthly plan in our table costs less all-in.
  • Gumroad's Discover marketplace can bring buyers you wouldn't reach yourself; leaving means giving that up.

Disclosure: we make Klasira, one of the platforms on this list. Every other product's details come from its own public pages, checked in October 2026 and linked at the end. We include each one's real strengths, and say who it suits better than us.

How we compared them

We picked stores built for digital products (Payhip, Lemon Squeezy, Sellfy), link-in-bio stores (Stan Store, Beacons) and platforms that sell downloads next to courses (Podia, Klasira), and checked each one's pricing and help pages in October 2026. We compared fees per sale, monthly price, payouts and who handles tax.

The platforms, one by one

1. Klasira

Best for: Creators who want a designed school, 0% transaction fees and every sale paid into their own Stripe account
Price: See Klasira's pricing; 0% transaction fees. Fee: 0%.

Klasira is a new course platform that also sells digital downloads (PDFs, templates, audio) on their own or in bundles. For a Gumroad seller, the useful parts are on-page checkout (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Link on the product page), lead magnets that give a download away for a name and email, limited spots and time-limited offers with a countdown, tracking pixels for Meta, Google, TikTok and Pinterest, a link-in-bio page and coaching calls booked from your availability.

If a download grows into a course, the school is already there: lessons, quizzes, certificates, a community and affiliates. Klasira takes 0% of each sale and pays it into your own Stripe account, where Stripe Tax can calculate and collect tax on card payments if you switch it on.

What it lacks against Gumroad: no marketplace that sends you buyers, and it isn't a merchant of record, so registering for and filing tax stays with you. There's no app, and Klasira is new.

Where it shines: 0% fees, your own Stripe, downloads and courses together, lead magnets and pixels.

Watch out for: No marketplace; not a merchant of record; new.

2. Payhip

Best for: Low-cost selling of downloads and courses, paying as you grow
Price: Free, $29 or $99 a month. Fee: 5% on Free; 2% on Plus; 0% on Pro.

Payhip gives every plan the same features and unlimited products; you choose between a higher transaction fee and a monthly price: 5% on the free plan, 2% on Plus and 0% on Pro. Payhip says it collects, reports and remits EU and UK VAT on digital sales for you.

Against Gumroad: Payhip's free plan takes 5% instead of 10% + 50¢, pays straight to PayPal or Stripe after each sale rather than from a $100 balance, and still handles EU and UK VAT.

Where it shines: A real free plan, all features on every plan, instant payouts to PayPal or Stripe.

Watch out for: Simpler course and site tools than course-first platforms.

3. Lemon Squeezy

Best for: Selling software, templates and downloads worldwide with tax handled for you
Price: No monthly fee. Fee: 5% + 50¢ per sale; small extra fees on some non-US payments.

Lemon Squeezy is a merchant of record: it sells on your behalf, then calculates, collects and files sales tax and VAT around the world. It charges 5% + 50¢ per sale with no monthly fee, includes affiliates, subscriptions and email marketing (free up to 500 subscribers), and pays out twice a month. It is now part of Stripe, and its 2026 update says the goal is an easy move for its users to Stripe Managed Payments.

Against Gumroad: half the percentage, the same merchant-of-record tax handling, and subscriptions and affiliates included. Because Lemon Squeezy is steering users toward Stripe Managed Payments, check where that stands before you build on it.

Where it shines: Global tax handled, cheaper per sale than Gumroad, built for software and subscriptions.

Watch out for: No course player or school; its future is tied to Stripe Managed Payments; payouts twice a month.

4. Sellfy

Best for: Selling downloads, merch and subscriptions from a simple store with email built in
Price: $29, $79 or $159 a month ($22, $59 or $119 billed yearly). Fee: 0%; plans capped at $10k, $50k or $200k of sales a year.

Sellfy is a store builder for digital, physical and print-on-demand products and subscriptions, with email credits on every plan (2,000, 10,000 or 50,000). It charges no transaction fee, but each plan has a yearly sales cap; above it Sellfy expects you to upgrade and may charge 2% on revenue over the limit. Upsells, cart abandonment and affiliates start on Business. We found no course builder on its pricing page.

Against Gumroad: a monthly plan with 0% fees and instant payouts, plus print-on-demand. Pick the plan by your yearly sales, because each one has a cap.

Where it shines: 0% fees, instant payouts, print-on-demand and email in one store.

Watch out for: Sales caps per plan; no free plan; upsells and affiliates need Business; not a course platform.

5. Stan Store

Best for: Social media creators selling from a link in bio
Price: $29 a month (Creator) or $99 (Creator Pro); $300 or $948 a year. Fee: 0%.

Stan Store is a link-in-bio storefront for courses, digital products and bookings, designed for creators selling from Instagram or TikTok. Creator Pro adds discount codes, upsells and order bumps, affiliates and email.

Against Gumroad: Stan is built for selling from a social bio, and at $29 a month with no fee it costs less than Gumroad's cut once you sell a few hundred dollars a month.

Where it shines: Fast setup for social sellers, 0% fees, mobile-first checkout.

Watch out for: A storefront rather than a full school; upsells, coupons and affiliates need Creator Pro.

6. Podia

Best for: Creators who sell courses, downloads, coaching and webinars from one simple site
Price: $49, $99 or $179 a month ($42, $84 or $150 yearly). Fee: 5% on Mover; 0% above.

Podia is an approachable all-in-one: courses, downloads, coaching, webinars and live events, a community, email marketing, and a website with a blog. Payments go to your own Stripe or PayPal, and Podia offers free migration help.

Against Gumroad: Podia turns a product page into a whole site with courses, coaching, events and email. Mover's 5% is half of Gumroad's percentage, and Shaker removes the fee.

Where it shines: Simple to use, events and webinars, a website and blog, free migration help.

Watch out for: 5% fee on Mover; affiliates and upsells only from Shaker; 100, 500 or 1,000 email subscribers included by plan, more as a paid add-on; no app.

7. Beacons

Best for: Creators who want a free link-in-bio page, a media kit for brand deals and a small store in one place
Price: Free, $10, $30 or $100 a month ($100, $300 or $1,000 a year). Fee: 9% on Free and Creator; 0% on Creator Plus and Creator Max.

Beacons combines a link-in-bio page, a store, a media kit for brand deals and email. The free plan sells with a 9% fee and 50 email sends a month; Creator ($10) adds AI brand outreach and 500 sends but keeps the 9% fee (invoices are 0%); Creator Plus ($30) drops the fee to 0% and adds memberships, multi-module courses, unlimited marketing emails and removes the Beacons logo.

Against Gumroad: Beacons' free plan takes 9% with no fixed fee per sale, and Creator Plus takes 0%. Its media kit helps if you also work with brands.

Where it shines: A real free plan, a media kit and brand-deal tools, 0% fees from $30 a month.

Watch out for: A 9% fee until you pay $30 a month; courses and memberships only from Creator Plus.

What Gumroad does better

Gumroad costs nothing until you sell, handles sales tax and VAT as the merchant of record, and its Discover marketplace can put your product in front of new buyers (at 30% of those sales). If a sale is refunded, Gumroad returns its own fee and keeps only the processing part. It pays out to local bank accounts in a long list of countries, daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly, once you reach $100; daily payouts are for eligible US accounts only.

What 100 sales of a $20 product cost on each

Here's one month of selling 100 copies of a $20 product, or $2,000. Card processing is estimated at Stripe's US rate of 2.9% + 30¢ ($88 on these sales); PayPal and international cards cost more.

Tax isn't in these numbers. On Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy and Payhip (for EU and UK VAT) it's handled for you; elsewhere you register where you must, collect (Stripe Tax can help) and file yourself. If you sell mostly to EU buyers, that work is worth pricing in.

Merchant of record or your own Stripe?

A merchant of record, like Gumroad or Lemon Squeezy, is the seller on paper: it takes the payment, handles tax and pays you later, minus its fee. Selling through your own Stripe account, as on Klasira, Podia, Stan or Sellfy, means lower fees and faster access to your money, but the tax obligations are yours. Many sellers start with a merchant of record and move once sales justify the admin.

How to choose

  • Want tax handled at a lower fee: Lemon Squeezy or Payhip.
  • Selling downloads from a social bio: Stan Store or Beacons.
  • Downloads now, a course later: Klasira or Podia.
  • Merch or print-on-demand too: Sellfy.
  • Most of your sales come from Discover: stay on Gumroad for those products.
